Ginger Dressing

Hubbie and I have this thing for the ginger dressing that is served on the house salads at Japanese restaurants.  I have no idea why is it so stinking good: It just is!    I really liked how the sun was filtering in through the shades onto my salad.  Apparently it gave just enough light to take a nicely exposed shot.  Took the picture on my iPhone while having dinner with a friend at Tai Pei Tokyo Cafe in Somerville, MA.

Soups On!

A couple of weekends ago I made onion soup for us and we have slowly been polishing off the leftovers.  I took a picture a week ago when I made my last bowl because it just looked so darn good!  Man, now I want more onion soup.  Dammit!

Slaving Over Onions

Welcome to what I spent almost an hour babysitting yesterday morning.  I decided to make onion soup and let me tell you, when you have this many onions to caramelize and this little pot real estate, you are in for a long haul.  I think we need to invest in a dutch oven. Brian made a small amount of these tonight in our cast iron pan so I could have them on my pasta and I swear they only took him 15 minutes.  Grrrrrr....  speaking of onions, I believe a bowl of my soup is now calling me.  Melty cheese and french bread hear I come!

Hot Breakfast on a Weekday

 

Both hubbie and I had a snow day today, so among other fun things, I decided to make us a nice, homemade french toast and bacon breakfast.  We just might have gone out to the Price Chopper to procure ingredients at 11pm last night in anticipation of today's free time.  Turned out pretty well and as an added bonus, I got to finally do some photography for once.  Maybe today will entice me to keep it up.  Sorry I've neglected you photo blog.  Please forgive me?

Tomatoes Tomatoes Everywhere!

My little cherry tomato plant has exploded.... with fruit!  They are Jo tested and approved.  Today some were made into a tomato sauce although I'm calling it a compote because it was so thick.  Very yummy over pasta with some olive oil, chives and Parmesan.  Basic recipe appearing soon on a blog near you!

5/10/2010 - Fruitizer

The pineapple before I hacked it to bits to make roasted pineapple chunks wrapped in bacon.  Excellent recipe by the way.  We brought it to a friend's house as an appetizer.

4/10/10 - Happy (Surprise) Birthday to Chris!

Today we had a surprise birthday party for our friend Chris.  His wife ordered him this awesome cake and we all brought him gifts of our favorite beers.  Well, we didn't exactly follow that rule.  Since hubbie and I don't really like beer, we picked beers that in our opinion had effective marketing on their labels.  Our choices included: Rogue, Banana Bread Beer and Double Chocolate Stout.  In addition to the three beers, I made Chris a birthday card which you can see on my other blog by clicking here.

4/9/10 - Warding off the Scurvy

We had a lovely salad on Easter when we were at mom and dad's and I completely forgot I took this picture after dissecting the oranges for it.  It was pretty interesting and included other things like spinach, sliced strawberries and pecans.  I also made the first vinaigrette of my life that day.  Actually, it is surprisingly easy to do.

The delicious Fruit Tart that Mel made and the decadent chocolate covered marshmallows Heather tempted us with at my knitting group get together tonight.  We had quite a spread; makes me want to get creative and bake again.  Thanks ladies for all the yummy treats!
