4/30/10 - My first hank of handspun

So, just this evening, I completed my first hank of hand spun yarn using my drop spindle.  It's not perfect in any way.  It runs think and then thin, but who cares?  I made my own freakin' yarn!!!!  Now to figure out what to make it into :D

4/29/10 - We have flowering trees?

I don't know why, but every spring it's like I've completely forgotten that there are flowering trees in the complex.  I get all excited and run around photographing them like I've never seen anything so beautiful.  I guarantee that if I took the time to go through my pictures from the past 6 years, I would find oodles of these flowers, if not even the same tree.  It's funny how our minds work some days.

4/28/10 - Strawberries!!!

A year or two ago, I bought a strawberry pot and some seeds.  By the end of the summer, there was not much promise and the pot (obviously a quality item) had been demolished by painters working outside our building.  So, the poor little pot with all it's paint removed has been sitting there since.  Recently, we we checking out our little garden and noticed that some of the strawberry seeds had survived and managed to jump off the pot and into the garden bed itself.  This flower holds the promise on 1 strawberry and it was just enough to give me a little bit of glee about the impending growing season.

4/27/10 - Up Close and Pawsonal

Snapped a pic of our Molliwog's footsie when she was asleep on our bed.  She is so much easier to photograph when she falls asleep in good natural lighting conditions :-)

4/22/10 - So what if its a weed? It's still pretty!

Dandelions are one of those flowers that people just don't appreciate.  Most of the time all we do is seek out and destroy them, but I have always loved their yellow color and how their seeds just float through the air effortlessly.

4/21/10 - Relaxin' Memory

I used to have a hammock just like this.  It sat is my parent shed for ages while I was in college and grad school and ended up rusting to bits since it was hung on a huge metal frame.  I miss it so.

4/20/10 - Handspun and Light Tents are a Match Made in Heaven!

So, I brought my light tent to knitting tonight so folks could play with it or if they wanted, I could take photos for them.  This was one of the many lovely specimen that my knitsib NeedleWoman had brought with her so she could start putting her stash up on Ravelry.  I couldn't resist using it as my picture of the day.

4/18/10 - A point of contention

Both Brian and I love rocking chairs and we just got one from my folks a couple weeks ago when they got a new set for the deck.  Now, we have one chair and there are two of us.  Let the games begin!!!

4/17/2010 - Gardening Potential

Our garden is slowly coming to life.  The hosta are poking up as well as the lilies, but my little earthenware pots remain empty and are surrounded by a very healthy variety of weeds.  I'm waiting until Ferjulians opens up for the season to buy any plants and as of yet, their parking lot has been cordoned off every time I drive by.  This is probably a good thing as I believe we had frost this week and many plants wouldn't be hearty enough to survive that kind of cold.

4/16/2010 - Trina the Squeaker

Meet the newest addition to my parents household!  Her name is Trina and she is quite possibly the smallest cat I have ever encountered.  She might be 6 pounds if she was soaking wet!  Anyway, I finally got to meet her today when I was over mucking around trying to clean out the storage unit.  She's really affectionate and very playful, so I'm very glad my Dad picked her out from the shelter :D

4/14/2010 - The Hills of Central MA

The sun setting as I arrived at the Leicester Senior Center for my fiber group with all my awesome knitsibs.  If anyone is interested in spinning, knitting, crochet, or weaving, we met Tuesday nights at 6:30 until whenever we get too tired to stick around.  Feel free to join us!

4/13/10 - Looking Up

The sky was so gorgeous this evening.  I was killing time at the shopping plaza in Millbury until fiber night today and just had to snap a pic of all the lovely clouds.  Actually, I had been thinking about them all day, but only got a chance to act on my thoughts once I finished my errands.

4/11/10 - A Bunny Army in Progress

Little bunny bodies all in a row.  I'm making good progress on the bunny nugget army since I haven't had much time to work on them this weekend.  I'm guessing they should be done in a week or so, then who knows where they might show up!

4/10/10 - Happy (Surprise) Birthday to Chris!

Today we had a surprise birthday party for our friend Chris.  His wife ordered him this awesome cake and we all brought him gifts of our favorite beers.  Well, we didn't exactly follow that rule.  Since hubbie and I don't really like beer, we picked beers that in our opinion had effective marketing on their labels.  Our choices included: Rogue, Banana Bread Beer and Double Chocolate Stout.  In addition to the three beers, I made Chris a birthday card which you can see on my other blog by clicking here.

4/9/10 - Warding off the Scurvy

We had a lovely salad on Easter when we were at mom and dad's and I completely forgot I took this picture after dissecting the oranges for it.  It was pretty interesting and included other things like spinach, sliced strawberries and pecans.  I also made the first vinaigrette of my life that day.  Actually, it is surprisingly easy to do.

4/8/10 - Meet Miss Lucy!

Miss Lucy is my friend Darth Coco's new roomie.  Isn't she soooooo cute!  I spent probably a good hour petting her and taking pictures tonight.  It was a very nice way to finish up a nice post work drink and some dinner.

4/6/10 - Spinning to my little heart's content

I have only recently discovered spinning thanks to the extra special knitsibs I have at my weekly knit night.  They are such a great group and everyone is so talented.  Since there is such a variety of talents in the group, there is a lot of opportunity for learning.

A few weeks ago we had a spinning night and a bunch of us tried out drop spindles for the first time.  It is actually quite amazing how easy it is, you just have to practice.  Last night was only the second time I've picked up my drop spindle since our group spinning night and I was able to make some good progress on turning a quarter pound of mystery roving (I think it might be alpaca) that my mom got me into a heavy worsted to bulky weight yarn.

I'm guessing I might have 50+ yards at this point and still have 2/3 of a bag of roving to go.  So, more practice for me and in the end I'll be able to make something small, like a hat or cowl, out of yarn I have spun up myself.  Pretty neat huh?

4/5/10 - And my commute is ALMOST back to normal!

Rt. 20 is officially open again!  It is only open one way however and that changes with the time of day.  In the morning, people going eastbound can get through.  In the evening, said group of people are allowed to head westbound towards home.  Thanks goodness I commute the right way or I would be a very sad camper.

4/4/10 - Candles on the Patio

Just this afternoon, between visits to our respective family members, hubbie and I rediscovered just how nice it is to sit out on our patio.  I had an hour of so when I just sat and worked on my latest project and enjoyed our second day of lovely weather.  Then, when we got home from dinner tonight, it was still fairly nice out, so we lit some candles and spent some more time out there.  One of these days, we might even go so far as to eat dinner out there.  Scary.... :p

4/3/10 - I think we might have had some rain.... sometime...

The Assabet River didn't cause me any problems, amazingly... It is however, causing others issues, especially those who's foundation and brickwork of their house are now part of the river :(

4/1/10 - Finding Hay in a Needlestack

Actually, there is no hay present.  I just wanted to awe you with my amazing (and horrible) skills at making puns. Yuk, yuk, yuk.  This is my most recent knitting acquisition: 13 sets of bamboo double pointed needles ranging from US 1 to 15 and all for under $20.  I heart you Amazon :D
