2/15/2010 - I miss you so much 1965 Cutlass

My Dad collects 1960's Oldsmobiles and there was one that I had a particular attachment to, his 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass that was a nice deep red.  Why was I so attached?  Normally I am not really a car person, but through my Dad I have started to really enjoy the thrum of a nice solid engine, the sheer acceleration and the classic lines of 1960's cars.  The Cutlass was special for me though, because it was the one he let me drive when I was under age 25 and therefore expensive to insure, lol.  Anyway, I was at the grocery store one day and I saw this matchbox car and it said Olds and I just had to buy it.  Yes, it's a 442 and not a Cutlass, and also is most likely modeled after a 1970's car but it has the same lines and really reminds me of the car I drove.

Dad, feel free to set the story straight as to the year and model of this car.  I know you're itching to, so just cave and leave a comment :P

Jo is mostly correct. The 1965 Cutlass color was "Burgundy Mist" in Oldsmobilespeak. The matchbox car shown is a 1968 442 although certainly not a standard paint job. F85s, Cutlasses, and 442s are pretty much the same car with different levels of trim and performance . The F85 is the basic model, the Cutlass a fancier version and the 442 has a big block V8 and a firmer suspension for high performance. The F85/Cutlass/442 was manufactured by the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors starting in 1961 and was continued in several generations into the 1990s. The Cutlass was the best selling American car for several years in the 70s and 80s. I am sure this is more than anyone wanted to know about Oldsmobiles.

Hehe, gotcha! Thanks for the clarification. I figured if the matchbox car wasn't from the 70's it was close.

Actually, I found that enlightening. :) Now if only I had a 442 to drive...
